Midwest Outdoors TV Filming with OPMOD Strikefire, Nikon M-223, Lasermax Unimax Micro, and Pheasant Pie
October 16, 2014Midwest Outdoors TV asked me last week to film a few segments for one of their sponsors, Wiley X Performance Eyewear. This was not affiliated with OpticsPlanet. Midwest Outdoors just wanted my semi-smiling countenance to bark their sponsor’s wares. I was flattered because they thought I was a good spokesperson, and I was glad to do it because Wiley X ROCKS! Great products that I unfortunately don’t own yet. Maybe someday when I’m more flush and classy, if ever.
I mentioned ANSI Z87 eyewear performance levels, lens color, adjustable …
Uncle Charlie’s New M&P with Crimson Trace!
October 10, 2014A Beretta Cougar. That's what Charlie kept in his house as his main defensive pistol. A quality gun that he felt comfortable shooting and shot well. Charlie's eyesight is failing. He's older than most of us. He's up on a lot of the latest firearm trends and technology, and he decided he wanted a laser for the Cougar.
Problem is, many guns that were made not too long ago did not have rails under the dust cover like most mid-to-full size pistols do now. The Cougar was one of these. He went into a large local gun shop to purchase a …
Nambu and Walther PP From Junkyard to Gems!
October 9, 2014My friend John has a brother with a junkyard as large as some small states. In it are hidden gems of all kinds. A recent walk around the blocks of rubble revealed a shiny tin document safe conspicuously lying on top of detrius, twisted metal. and fiberboard, just waiting for someone to break open. The top picture reveals one piece of the contents inside.
It's a Japanese Nambu, Type 14, small trigger guard. Caliber 8mm Japanese Nambu. Original and nearly perfect. Upon my research, it was made in 1913 at the Kokura arsenal in Tokyo in the time of the Shoe …
OPMOD Strikefire on 10/22 and Pistol
September 29, 2014The OPMOD Strikefires have been migrating to various guns. First, on the S&W M&P 15-22 that I wrote about in my last Riflescopeblog, then on to my 10/22 and my S&W 2206 pistol. With the optional low ring, it's perfect for so many applications.
The above photo shows my old charcoal grey laminate 10/22 with a standard Weaver mount. I had tried an EGW pic rail so I could have extra room to mount a magnifier or NV device, but it was a bit higher than what I wanted, so I just stayed with the standard Weaver. …
